Science is the body of knowledge which applies reason to the study of nature. The distinguishing characteristic of science is the use of a formal method for acquiring new knowledge.

Some essential elements of the scientific method are the focus on observation and description of the phenomena being studied, prediction of the underlying causes, experimental validation of hypothesis, causal explanations, and an iterative process of continually validating and expanding the existing body of knowledge.
